Philadelphia Meetup: Wissahickon Trail

In my last post, Philadelphia Meetup, I blogged about my first “meetup” in my new city. Well, I had my second and it was with the meetup group Black Philadelphia. Boy did I have a great time!

With all of the meetup activities, I only pick the ones that are outdoor events. I ain’t playing around with COVID-19, so we adhere to the mask and social distance.

Anywho, this meetup was hiking the Wissahickon Trail. Being from South Florida, we did not have a lot of trails and so I said yes with a quickness. I’ve been hiking before but it is so different when you are in a new city and pretty much everything is in your backyard.

Not knowing much about the trail and knowing we were going to be out there for 2 hours, I decided I need some stuff from Amazon, so I purchased a backpack, hiking pole, and a couple of long sleeve pullovers. Yeah, I am Amazon b!tch 😆. I don’t even want to look at how much I spent on Amazon during this pandemic.

Anywho, the day started bright and sunny and I was all geared up and ready to go.

Wissahickon Trail

Wissahickon Trail is one of the trails within Wissahickon Valley Park which is a lush, 1,800-acre gorge, crossing forest and meadow along the Wissahickon Creek. The picturesque creek, whose name translates to either “catfish creek” or “stream of yellowish color” in local American Indian dialects.

With over 57-miles of trails, we only did about 3 miles since we were all new to hiking and/or the area. The trail was just right….not easy but not rigorous. We had inclines! We had mud! We laughed! But no one fell down 😉

Below are photographic moments that were captured.

On the trail, we saw walkers, runners, and bikers, so it is a place for everyone and any activities. We were glad that “we did this” and made connections at the end of our hike. We can’t wait for our next meetup which is Disc Golf and Archery.

If you visiting or home, find a meetup and get active and find your adventures.
