We’ve recuperated from the jetlag and we were ready to explore Memphis, Saqqara, and the Great Pyramids.
Memphis
Memphis was one of the oldest and most important cities in ancient Egypt, located at the entrance to the Nile River Valley near the Giza plateau. It served as the capital of ancient Egypt and an important religious cult center.In Memphis there is a 10 meter length statue carved from limestone of King Ramses II. It was discovered near the temple of god “Ptah.King Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great, has a great reputation due to his military expeditions. He’s also one of the most celebrated and powerful pharaoh.
Saqqara
Saqqara is one of several other notable necropolis sites near Cairo. It hosts burials dating from before the beginning of the Old Kingdom up through the Greek Period of Egyptian history. The entire site of the Saqqara Necropolis is worth a visit to anyone interested in the history of the pyramids.
