The Road to Lucerne Switzerland

I am sitting here realizing that I never blogged about my trip to Switzerland this past December 2016. The only reason it came to mind was because my boyfriend (@kevotry) just came back from his Switzerland-Italian Summer vacation and was sharing his photos with me. His visit took him to Zurich while I went to Lucerne.

So back in December of 2016, I embarked on a 12 day trip during New Years to explore Europe. One of the stops was Switzerland.

Our hotel was in this small town of Wilderswil which is a “village and a municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern”. Side Note: You will see the word of “canton” here and there and it actually means county/region/district of an area.

One of the thing I found out while staying in Wilderswil, there are no big name hotels/motels, but very quaint two stories accommodations. I stayed in the Alpenrose Hotel & Gardens.  My room faced the garden and it was so cute.

The next day started with a road-trip to Lucerne with several stops along the way to see the beauty of central Switzerland.

Lungern, Switzerland

Our first stop was Lungern. The village of Lungern lies 750 meters (2,460 ft) above sea level in the highest part of the canton of Obwalden. It is the highest village of the Sarneraa-Valley.

Based on the pictures below you can see the altitude. I literally wanted to grab the clouds.

With my tour mate, we attempted to spell something.

Brienz, Switzerland

Our next stop was Brienz. The prettiness of Brienz stole my heart with the wooden chalets. The picturesque setting and theAlpine mountains as a backdrop contribute to the beauty of this area.

Lake Brienz

Now one of the most memorable part of this road-trip is Lake Brienz. I can bore you with stats of the lake; however, I opt to show you the beauty of the lake. The pictures were taken in the morning. It was not overcast. It was just a “normal” cold December. I’ve never seen a lake so blue (no filter).  It almost looks like a post card.

Lucerne, Switzerland

Well we made it to Lucerne! The city is the most populous in central Switzerland where the majority of the people speak Swiss German. However, you will get some French as well. It know as “The City – The Lake – The Mountains”. Once you see the pictures, you will definitely understand the motto.

I spent hours just walking around and just being in awe.. Just from this one-day trip, I experience so much that I can’t wait to go back and explore another part of Switzerland.

Wow, Switzerland is stunning! I thought about trying to make it down while I was studying in Germany, but it didn’t fit into my schedule. That lake is simply amazing and blue! Definitely no filter needed for that! I saw clouds like that when I was in Hawaii and summited a crater to watch the sunrise over Maui. It’s so true – you just want to reach out and grab a handful of clouds!
