For the past week, I have been thinking about what should I blog about. I was looking at old pictures and I noticed that I have some really “cheesy” travel photos. You know the ones that you see all the time; in front of the Louvre in Paris or kissing the sphinx in Giza. There are times I roll my eyes but then I realized — “hey, I’ve done the same thing!” I like to show my corny or even silly personality in my travel photos. And who hasn’t acted like a fool in front of famous attraction sites. Well, I decided to list the Top 10 Cheesy travel photos you must take and share.
1. The Leaning Tower of Pisa falling on you
The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy (outside Florence) is a famous lopsided, circular bell tower made of white marble. Acting like this impressive architectural structure will fall over you, may be one of the most classic of all the cheesy travel pictures. Even more fun is watching everyone else pose.
2. Jumping between two hemispheres
Have you ever stood between two hemispheres? Well the only way to do this is by visiting the equator. There are 11 countries the Equator crosses and one of them is Ecuador. The equator is 15 miles north of city of Quito. So why not kill two birds with one stone – visit the equator and check off a country from your list.
3. Kissing the Great Sphinx of Giza
The Great Sphinx of Giza is a colossal limestone statue in Egypt (Cairo) that guards the front of Khafra’s pyramid. It is a mythical character with the body of a lion and the face of a man. Why not give him a little smooch.
4. Touching the Louvre Pyramid
Not only do you to pinch the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but you should also touch the tippy top of theLouvre Museum
5. Posing with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds
Millions of visitors have been awed by the wax figures at Madame Tussauds, which has museum locations throughout the world. And there is no shortage of celebrities to pose with. Morgan Freeman was my target in New York.
6. Throwing a coin into Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain in Rome is one of the most visited attractions in Italy. And for good reason. Not only is it an impressive piece of art, it is also good luck to throw money into the fountain. It means that you will one day return to the eternal city and I did 10 years later.
7. In a Red Phone Booth in London
Along with the black taxi, the red telephone box has become iconic in Great Britain. So, after you take your photo crossing Abbey Road in London, pop by a booth to make an easy two checkmarks on this cheesy travel photos bucket list.
8. Posing in front of the “I AMSTERDAM” sign
Located at the back Rijksmuseum museum and at lower level at Amsterdam airport, the 6 1/2 feet tall and 77 feet long “I Amsterdam” sign draws countless visitors each year. Tourists can be found posing in front of it, inside of it and even on top of it.
9. Floating in the Blue Lagoon
Iceland is hot right now and must visit country. If you visit Reykjavik (which is the largest city in Iceland), you must experience the Blue Lagoon and while there you must float away in the geothermal water. Make sure to apply your mud mask.
10. Posing in front of the Southernmost Point
The most famous attraction site in Key West is the Southernmost Point Buoy. From this point, you are about 90 miles from Cuba. Millions of tourist come and take a picture in front of the buoy.
Silly, cliché, and corny travel photos are the hallmark of a great sojourn. Yes, travel is about transformation, cultural exchange, and introspection, but it’s also about letting loose and having fun. How many of these cheesy travel picture ideas have you taken? How many will be added to your list?

Haha I have to confess, I can be very cheesy myself. I love getting such pictures of myself too, and I think I have the same kind in front of the Louvre, one with ‘kicking’ the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and many other typical cheesy ones. LOL.
You know I think all of us travelers have some memorable and some rather forgettable cheesy pictures from our travels. I have tons of them especially with famous landmarks and monuments. At the end of the day like you said, traveling is about experiencing new cultures and learning but it’s also fun. I come across way too many travelers that take traveling way too seriously – traveling is an escape from your normal life (to some of us traveling is normal life) so have fun and take some cheesy pictures you can look back at laugh at 😀

I have many of these 😀 Now that I’ve come to be more of a photographer when I travel I’ve stopped taking many of the shots I would take in my first years of travel, of me standing in front of a famous place etc.But I feel there is still a time and a place for the super cheesy travel photos, and they make us smile and laugh still!!

Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do! There’s nothing wrong with a cheesy travel photo. I sometimes feel embarrassed taking photos like these but then I think why the heck not?! I don’t know these people haha!
